Looking to the future during The CommUnity Days 2019
Over 130 attendees came together for the 5th edition of The CommUnity Days (TCD), this year in Berlin. The weekend kicked off with sustainable stand-up comedy by CommUnity members and an interactive interview with our CEO Diego Pavia. To increase also the sustainability of the event, TCD 2019 only served vegetarian food and all CO2 was compensated through a wind park with European technology in India via Blue Halo.
During the deep-dive dialogues, three panels focused on energy transition, energy mobility and energy in Africa. Speakers included Sara Hermansson from NorthVolt, Haitze Siemers from the European Commission and Matthias Machnig from InnoEnergy. The latter commented: “It is not enough to have investments in renewable energy, it is important to have a growth strategy, so we can keep developing the renewable energy industry and not experience a shortfall.”
At the same time, thirty participants engaged in the EU Policy Lab workshop, where they worked with the Scenario Exploration System, a tool which helps future-oriented system thinking. All participants got a specific role as a stakeholder - public voice, business, government or media - and together they had to make decisions according to two different contrasting scenarios over 20 years for their hypothetical city. In conclusion, it was highly enriching to think, share and discuss for some hours what takes years to happen.
During the Saturday afternoon, eight speakers, of which most were InnoEnergy alumni and entrepreneurs, shared their vision and experience in the sustainable energy market. Besides energy transition and big players in the energy industry, they also spoke about consciousness and the one non-renewable resource and how to make the most of it: time. Time was also appreciated during the relaxing yoga session organised by GreenYoga. Afterwards, the refreshed participants joined the Sunday brunch where Jan Michael Hess closed TCD 2019 by sharing his experiences on setting up and developing the Ecosummit, an event which accelerates smart green startups, investors and corporates.
