Hey CU members,
plenty of organizations have cool names for their members. E.g. TEDxers, googlers (you can guess the organization )
Challenge: What should we call our members?
Good idea! I believe too that we should come up with some catchy name. Both for members as well as representatives.
The 'functional' names so far are 'affiliate' and 'core' members of the CU, descriptive of what it is, but not super catchy.
I agree with you Claudio Geyken that we need something that makes one want to say: "I am a [insert catchy name]".
However, I don't have a suggestion for an improved name for members. It made me think, though, about another name we use in our CommUnity, that of the 'representative'. So my answer is not directly answering the question that was asked.
I am not entirely sure where 'representative' came from, but to be frank, it's very long for not saying much in specific. One symptom of that is that we have made an internal abbreviation as you all know, the 'rep'.
To be constructive here:
My suggestion is CommUnity Fellow as a replacement of 'representative'.
See the Wikipedia page here for info-overflow-lovers like me. 'Fellow' gives our CommUnity, our network, the professional appearance that we seek. Not as students or alumni, but as professionals, that consciously embarked on an impact and growth journey by supporting each other. To quote from Wikipedia:
The title fellow can be used for participants in a professional development program run by a nonprofit [...] organization. This type of fellowship is a short term work opportunity [..] for professionals who already possess some level of academic or professional expertise that will serve the nonprofit mission. Fellows are given [...] professional experience and leadership training.
I think we can learn from this.
Seeing our most valuable asset, our representatives, the people that go beyond, learn and grow in our network and have an impact, seeing them as what they are: the heart of our CommUnity.
From the outside: What are external associating with the word 'representative' vs with 'Fellow'? Ask your friends and colleagues.
For me, this name would guide us to the future:
This is my idea on how we can make this professional network of changer-drivers and bright and entrepreneurial people future-proof, starting with the change of the name.

(Alba) I like the word peer: "A person of the same age, status, or ability as another specified person".
As in the sharing economy, some community are designated P2P platform, I like the idea of interaction between equals for a certain context.
CommUnity peers, like people interacting and sharing the same context, interested in making an impact in the sustainable energy future.
Also I like the fact that is short, direct and quite easy to understand internationally.
I propose the term: "MemBee", as we are the diligent workforce which makes everything possible
