Even if we are still far from reaching a carbon-free energy system, I believe it is pretty impressive almost all new European capacity came from renewable in 2016, and it shows us that we are on a good track.
Fossil fuels are still needed for our grid, but when it comes to new capacity, renewables are the best choice both environmentally and economically.
Worldwide, around 50% of new capacity came from renewables.
I bet that in 2-3 years, we will reach 90% even worldwide.
