Be part of Ghana’s sustainable transition by investing in ecoligo’s solar power project for leading healthcare centre

Dec 18, 2018

Thanks to your efforts, the project has now been successfully financed. Thank you to everybody who invested.

The CommUnity is proud to be supporting InnoEnergy startup ecoligo, which promotes global sustainable development by providing businesses in developing countries with affordable, renewable energy solutions, namely solar power. ecoligo puts the power to change the world in our hands. It allows us to take charge of how we deal with climate change and act on it rather than to wait for governments to take a lead.

ecoligo implements renewable energy projects around the world that are financed through the  crowdinvesting platform, which offers attractive and tangible projects with a fixed interest rate to private investors such as you and me. Thus, we as investors can benefit financially, while supporting local economic development in emerging markets, as well as tackling climate change. This effectively promotes citizen participation in the global energy transition. We have the power to change people’s lives at our fingertips.

Today, we want to bring to your attention one of ecoligo’s latest project, Nyaho Medical Centre in Accra, Ghana.

As one of the first African countries to aggressively pursue electrification, Ghana has among the highest access rates on the continent. Yet, the country also suffers from chronic power shortages and has struggled to expand capacity to meet growing demand. Furthermore, electricity prices are amongst the highest in West Africa. This impacts businesses, who often pay electricity prices twice as high as in Europe.

Powering their businesses with solar energy significantly reduces energy costs, allowing these businesses to grow and boost the local economy. By financing the solar systems through crowdinvesting, ecoligo realises projects that were previously hindered by a lack of suitable finance.

The Nyaho Medical Centre was established in 1970 and has been recognized by the government for its contribution to Ghana’s economic development. The prestigious private medical centre employs more than 300 people who treat over 90,000 patients a year, and prides itself on an exceptional standard of care, highly skilled professionals and excellent facilities.

The planned photovoltaic system will supply the health center by covering 7 rooftops with a total capacity of 195 kWp. As a result, not only the electricity costs, but also the CO2 emissions of the centre will be significantly reduced by around 133 tonnes per year. The solar project supports a number of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, including ‘Good Health and Wellbeing’, ‘Affordable, Clean Energy’,‘Decent Work and Economic Growth’ and ‘Climate Action’.
