Dr. Lisa Hehenberger will give an introduction to impact investing – an investment approach that aims to generate social and/or environmental impact, apart from financial returns. The session will be complemented with a practical case study, ecoligo, whose solution is contributing to the deployment of solar energy in Africa and developing countries, with the double objective to lower electricity price and minimize electricity shortages these countries frequently have.

Co-found and CFO at ecoligoMarkus Schwaninger is the co-founder and CFO at ecoligo, a company that provides a fully financed solar-as-a-service solution for businesses in emerging markets. With a complete digital platform for financing and delivering solar projects, ecoligo removes the barriers that prevent such projects from being realised. Prior to ecoligo, Markus worked as Project Manager for the German development organisation (GIZ) and was responsible for advising solar companies entering the markets in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and Myanmar. His role included consulting on business model development, regulation and financing options. He is a certified expert in renewable energy finance. Markus was actively involved when the renewable energy market development in Kenya kicked-off when he lived in the country in 2010 and 2011 and worked on carbon credit and renewable energy projects.

Dr. at ESADEDr. Lisa Hehenberger is a professor at ESADE, and Director of ESADE’s Entrepreneurship Institute, as well as a member of the European Commission's Expert Group on Social Business (GECES) and of the OECD's Social Impact Investment Expert group. She has an extensive experience in the impact investing field through her research and policy work at the European Venture Philanthropy Association where she was a member of the G8 taskforce on social impact investment.
